Now here's a pretty lady. This Marlose Sand Hat pattern is from Rowan Knitting & Crochet Magazine Number 40. I used Manos del Uruguay yarn and some ginormous number 15 needles. It was a fairly quick knit with a very enjoyable cable tucked into the middle. Its knit on straight needles then seamed up the back.
The only odd thing to note about the pattern is the lack of specific finishing instructions. Make a pom pom. Ok...um, how do I do that? Its been a few years y'all so I had to make a practice one before I made this one you see there. The secret trick to making a pretty pom pom is to wrap the yarn twice as many times around the cardboard than you think you need. Trust me here.
And the other sort of odd thing was how to attach the yarn to the end of the earflaps without making a large knot. That was a head scratcher for a moment. But I'd left a long tail from the cast on so I just doubled a length of yarn and put it through the flap end and made a small knot. Then I proceeded to braid away.
Gosh she's pretty. Wish it wasn't a million degrees outside so I could wear her.

Lovely and so cute! I hope it gets cold enough to wear her soon; it's supposed to flurry here this weekend! Hurray!

Wow! What a great hat! My sister's been bugging me about making her a hat with pom poms and earflaps but I have not been able to finish knitting the ear flaps. (I hate picking up stitches.) Also, you're totally right on pom poms. I learned that one recently the hard way. :)

She's a beauty! you did a great job .... lovely little pom.
Perfect for winter weather.... although it is a bit too warm even here for that this week. We have some snow on the ground...but lovely sunny and warm enough days for just a coat... ear flaps not really needed this week.

Oh, it's just wonderful! I love the color too...I have my mother make all my pom-poms...although, I have to admit, I don't use a lot of Pom-poms...

Now that is one very cute hat! I have to check to see if I have No. 40 because I definitely have some suitable Malabrigo in stock.

Wow, very nice! You need to come north so you can enjoy your hat -- it's been cold here and we're supposed to get a ton of snow (promises, promises, it rarely pans out to be as much as they say!)

What a great hat! I love the color. I am working on my knitting skills, but haven't graduated from the simple scarf stage. Maybe I'll have a hat figured out by next winter...

What a pretty hat in such a lovely color! Hopefully a nice cold front will move in and you'll have the chance to wear your lovely hat!
I was laughing pretty hard when I read the bit about lacking finishing instructions. Been there so many times. Time to create project = 3 hours. Time to reinvent finishing instructions that I guess are omitted because everybody else already knows them = 5 days. LOL!
