my first Antique Booth

One of the things I love to do is poke around in antique shops. You never know what groovy treasure you may find!

So when a new shop opened up in an old house near my neighborhood I hotfooted it down there to check it out. Ladybug Antiques is cute as cake and stuffed full of delightful things. On a recent visit I got to talking with owner Janice Simpson. One thing led to another and I suddenly found myself signing up for my first ever booth! So after a week of preparation, yesterday I got busy setting things up.

Boy was it a lot of work, but oodles of fun too! Here is the left side of my booth during the setup process. At first I thought I may have brought too much stuff.

But it started to come together after I got things organized. This is the left side of my booth after I finished setting up. You can see some of my handmade pouches on top of the table.

It took a lot work to squirkle things around to fit into the small space in a pretty way, but that was half the fun! It felt like part decorating and part like setting up a booth for one of my craft shows. Really, it was the best of both those worlds.

This is the right side of my booth after setting up. I really like how the curtains accent the wall. And you can see some of my handmade creatures on that lower shelf.

My booth is packed with bits of treasure everywhere just like some of my favorite booths I've loved to shop at. Plus, I've gotten a lot of shop setup ideas from the quite inspirational blog Garden Antqs Vintage.

We Made a Garden by Margery Fish

I'm pretty sure that Margery Fish and I would have thoroughly enjoyed sitting down to chat over a cup of coffee. Probably our conversation would have lasted only five minutes or so before we both jumped up to scuttle over to the garden. I just finished reading her book, We Made a Garden, and I highly recommend it. Margery is gone from this earth now but she and her husband gardened in England for many years starting in 1939. And amazingly enough her East Lambrook Manor Gardens are still privately owned and available to tour.

I'm still a novice when it comes to gardening so I can't say that I understood much about the specific plants she kept name dropping in Latin, but her writing style is conversational and enjoyable. By the end of the book I wanted to slap the sin out of her husband though. I suppose it was how things were in those days but frankly, his in your face domineering was getting on my nerves! After he passed away she was able to add plants to the garden he had forbade and make changes of which he would surely not have approved. Good for you Margery, you go girl!

Oh, I almost forgot to mention my favorite quote from the book: "When I think of it now I wonder how I had the hardihood to attempt such an ambitious scheme." I'll have to remember that one :)

antiquing

 

What a fantastic holiday vacation I had! Managed to squeeze in oodles of fun. Unfortunately, I didn't photograph much of it since I was too busy having fun :)

 

But I did manage to snag a couple of shots of an antiquing day trip to the Church Street Antique Mall in Covington, Georgia. 

 

There were lots of cute treasures here!

 

And the town was pretty as a picture.

I was so sad when the Old Buggy Factory closed down a couple of years ago. It was my favorite antique mall.

 

But I discovered this cool new one, The Shops at the IceHouse Underground, in Madison, Georgia that is crammed with groovy stuff. And they even had a friendly kitty greeter outside.

Part of the challenge of antiquing is to not buy every single thing that is cute. I left these sweet glasses behind! Ugh.

 

I adore this pretty setup.

I visited this shop before last year. Can't wait for another old junque shopping day out!
