Fluffy Flowers is celebrating the arrival of the final book in the Harry Potter series with a week of giveaways. The random number generator says congratulations go out to Leslie of A Friend to Knit With, yesterday's winner. We're starting over again today with another prize of assorted Harry Potter goodies. Included is a hand-knitted mini Weasley sweater on a hanger. This sweater is Ron's dreaded maroon with the inital 'R'. I've only made two of these and the other will show up later this week. Leave a Harry Potter comment and I’ll draw the winner’s name tomorrow around 5a.m. Next week we will return to our regularly scheduled blog.
Book 3 – Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
Favorite Quote
" 'Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, and Prongs,' sighed George, patting the heading of the map. 'We owe them so much.'
'Noble men, working tirelessly to help a new generation of lawbreakers,' said Fred solemnly." p. 193
Lovely knitting
" 'Another sweater from Mum ...maroon again...see if you've got one.'
Harry had. Mrs. Weasley had sent him a scarlet sweater with the Gryffindor lion knitted on the front..." p. 222
Fluffy Flowers
Pansy Parkinson shows her true Slytherin colors by teasing Harry constantly about his reaction to the Dementors. Lavender Brown spends nearly the entire book agreeing with Professor Trelawney's grim predictions. And finally, I couldn't leave out Harry's mother Lily Potter. After all these years he finally gets to hear her voice for the first time.
A Page At Random
" 'I can have it back?' Harry said weakly. 'Seriously?'
'Seriously,' said Professor McGonagall, and she was actually smiling." p. 248
Siriusly? What a great pun and excellent foreshadowing!
What an amazing book! This one is up there in my top favorites. The story is so different than any of the others because it is a complete mystery within itself. It can really stand on its own which is why I always recommend it as the first book to read for folks who are unsure if they want to read the series. Books one and two are awesome, don't get me wrong, but book three is an excellent mystery that will hook new readers with its cleverness. And, of course, it introduces one of my favorite characters of the series, Remus Lupin. What are your favorite moments from book three?
This book is actually one of the more scary ones to me. I think it's that darn shrieking shack! I actually had bad dreams. :-(
As a cartographer, I have to feel that the Marauder's Map would be a very handy item, especially for teenagers. As a wimp, I have to feel that knowing the whereabouts of supposedly dead people is very creepy.

Loved this book -- I really loved the method of dealing with the Boggarts -- the Riddikulus spell that turned Snape into Longbottom's gran -- wonderful! I loved the simple advice of facing something you fear by imagining it to be something ridiculous.

Lupin is great, isn't he? And I really like the man who plays his character in the movie : )
I've never understood why Ron dislikes those sweaters... they're gorgeous!

Rowling introduces new creatures in almost every novel and this one's was Buckbeak the Hippogriff. I loved how you had to bow to it and it bowed back gracefully if it accepted you. Sirius was yet another attraction. He's portrayed to be such a villain, a great threat to Harry and how in the end it proves to be entirely the opposite. We come to know more about the Dementors - shudder! But what I liked best was how Hermoine uses the time-turner to take extra lessons and later on puts it to more inventive use. But I wonder - is it ever explained why McGonnagal gives her that or why does she need those extra lessons and how long has she had it?

I like two things: one, that we finally start to see the entire plot, not just small adventures; and two, that we finally get to really start seeing how awesome the Weasley twins are!

You already know I know very little about Harry Potter. But the sweaters you're knitting are really cute!

Year 1:
Fred & George: "Blown up a toliet seat? We've never blown up a toliet. Great idea though, thanks mum."

I honestly have the worst time trying to remember one from the next, I loved them all though. I got to see the new film this weekend and I really loved it. It's got such a great style to it, and it's great to see the kids a bit more grown up. I have to admit, I love the tension in each book between Ron & Hermione. And Ginny's crush on Harry is very sweet too. I guess I'm just an old softie.

I think my favourite part is right at the end of the book where Harry thinks he saw his dad and then it turns out he saw himself casting the patronus and Dumbledore tell him that the ones who love us never leave us, or something along those lines. I'd go grab the book, but I *just* finished organizing and making space for book 7 and I don't want my books to fall over if I move one!

I think what I most loved about this book was that Harry finally found a link back to his father and also some hope that he would be free of the Dursley's. Lupin is one of my fave's as well. For funny, we love where the Marauder's Map is um, saying not very complementary things to Snape. Cracks my son up every time :)

I think this is one of my favorites because the ending was just SO good! There were so many unexpected (but not yet deadly!) and pleasurable secrets & surprises about the characters. It was the last year to feel safe.

There are so many things I love in this book. Lupin, Weasley twins, The Map, and that Hermoine is the heroine in this book. She makes everything happen with the clock!

I've not read any of the Potter Books (I like the idea of reading all of them in quick succession, if I start to read them at all), but I think this give away is a fun idea. A nice way to count down the days till the release of the last book!

PoA is my favourite HP book to date - most everyone has touched on what is so good about it in previous posts. This is where the book stops being 'child's play' and gets dark - the first little niggles of dread start creeping in. The Dementors terrify me - both in print and on screen. (BUt they were friendly at the last release party I went to, go figure.)
I'm getting excited (and nervous) as the release date for BOok 7 grows closer... I can't wait to get my hands on it and dive into it. Hoping for sunshine so I can sit on the beach and read all day.

I saw the movie the other day. it was great. I really love all of the books, and I am counting down the days until the next comes out.
All of my friends think that Harry's going to die. I won't believe them. I won't admit it. I don't want harry to die!

This is my all-time favorite HP book! (Though I'm waiting for the seventh, it may take its place.)
Lupin, my favorite teacher, is in this book a lot, and so is Sirius, so I definitely love it.
The mystery that is involved makes it fun to reread (over and over and over...)

This is an exciting book with the addition of 1. Lupin, making Defense Against the Dark Arts fun and interesting and 2. Sirius, for the link he is to Harry's dad. Although one of my favourite parts is when Hermione clocks Draco. He's such a prat! Lots of thrills and excitement with the Dementors and Harry getting to ride Buckbeak.

How sad is it that I haven't actually seen all of the movies? I need to get going here!

Boy have you been busy since I last checked in :) Looking forward to catching both the movie and the last book- oh the suspense!

I love Lupin too! I also liked how they dealt with the introduction of Sirius Black, another favorite character of mine. It's nice to see how by the end Harry has really found someone who loves him as a "father" should.

Book Three is as far as I got in the series and it was my favorite as well. I loved the character of the dog. Don't you just sometimes wonder if your dog has another life that you don't know about? (hee, hee :)

It's in a different book, but I love the passage where Dumbledore goes to the restroom, and when he returns he mentions that he really enjoyed reading the knitting patterns that were in there. My husband is sure Dumbledore was making fun of knitting - I'm sure Dumbledore's not! I love the little sweaters.

Your blog is even MORE fantastic now that I know you're a huge Harry Potter Fan. Thanks for posting the fun items and quotes.
Sirius Black is my all time favorite character...but I adore Ginny, especially in book 6. I cannot wait until this weekend, when the new book comes out. It will be bittersweet.

Love Harry Potter stories. I'm so disappointed to hear the murmur that the new movie is boring. Oh well, I'll still go see it and will probably love it!
The only quote I can remember off the top of my head from any of the HP movies is when Harry is in a hospital bed and Dumbledore comes to visit. Ron has brought Harry a truckload of treats. Dumbledore spies the Every Flavor Beans and tries one, cautiuosly. After putting one in his mouth and chewing, he says, "Hmm...how unfortunate. Earwax." :-)

Can't wait until Friday :))

I love Harry Potter. I love the fact that in book 3 they got some practical Dark Arts teaching. I love Sirius and the fact that he's Harry's godfather. I hated when she killed him in book 5. I loved (in the movie) when Granger pulls back and socks Malfoy in the nose. This is cool.

Oh, I just saw the movie and am waiting for my book to come in the mail.
Also, you inspired me to write my own Harry Potter blog post!
Hurrah for Harry.

PoA is my favorite book! I secretly love the Weasley twins, Rowling writes them so well. I've always wanted a George sweater of my own....sigh. I'm shaking with excitement waiting for mindight to roll around on Friday!

:) We are so excited! Thank you! :)
As spoken from Charlie...."I like chapter 7- the boggart in the wardrobe- When professor Lupin is about to open the wardrobe with the boggart in it, and you get really scared, but the chapter turns out to be mostly funny."
Posted by: leslie | July 16, 2007 at 09:38 PM
Oh, Miss Felicia, Charlie wanted to add something...........
"I also really liked when Harry and his Uncle, sirius Black, teamed up and fought the dementors at the lake." Did you like that part too?

Book 3. My favorite moment: my husband reading this book for leisure. It was only a handful of books he's read in our marriage that was fiction. That & Centenniel are the only 2 that stand out in my memory. Keep in mind we've been married 15 yrs. So Book 3... Extra special!!!

I soooo love what you're doing here Felicia, I've read all the books only once, but this certainly makes me want to start all over again, bummer that Jennifer has them all over at her dad's at the moment. So looking forward to the last part and watching the movie next week!!
