Fluffy Flowers is celebrating the arrival of the final book in the Harry Potter series with a week of giveaways. Up for grabs today is this assortment of Harry Potter goodies. Included is a hand-knitted mini Weasley sweater on a hanger. Leave a Harry Potter comment and I’ll draw the winner’s name tomorrow around 5a.m. Next week we will return to our regularly scheduled blog.
Book 1 – Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone
Favorite Quote
“ ‘I remember every wand I’ve ever sold Mr. Potter. Every single wand. It so happens that the phoenix whose tail feather is in your wand, gave another feather – just one other. It is very curious indeed that you should be destined for this want when its brother – why, its brother gave you that scar.’ ” Mr. Ollivander, maker of fine wands, p. 85
Lovely Knitting
“Hagrid took up two seats and sat knitting what looked like a canary-yellow circus tent. ‘Still got yer letter, Harry?’ he asked as he counted stiches” p. 65
Fluffy Flowers
Petunia Dursley. Hard to believe that Harry’s horrid aunt is named after such a pretty flower. And although not a flower I couldn’t leave out “How do you know about Fluffy?” p. 192
A Page At Random
“Professor McGonagall now stepped forward holding a long roll of parchment. ‘When I call your name, you will put on the hat and sit on the stool to be sorted,’ she said. ‘Abbot, Hannah!’” p. 119
Some say this is the book that gives the most clues to the end of the series. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve read it. The first chapter of the book is called The Boy Who Lived. My suspicion is that book seven’s last chapter will be called the same thing. What are some of your favorite moments from book one?
Hard to believe that Harry's horrid aunt is named after such a pretty flower.
Sorry if I'm duplicating this, it's from memory.
The Harry Potter books in our house, are in french only.

OK -- this is true: I have been thinking over and over again about "The Boy Who Lives," and believing that it says it all -- that Harry IS destined to live. I think JK liked stirring up all the angst about a possible, grim end for our hero, but I also think she told us right up front what she intended!

I can't wait to read the final book! Thanks for leaving a comment! Even with the rain we had a wonderful time in Florida! :)

Like I said earlier, I'm a real sucker for Christmas scenes. I loved Harry's first Christmas at Hogwarts. I was a bit envious when Mrs. Weasley didn't send me a sweater that year, too.

I just love this mini sweater!

Sadly, I have not read any HP books. I know. I'm a loser. But I'm a busy mom and don't have time to read to myself.

I don't know if I have a favorite passage, per se. But I do love that this book is one of the only ones with a sense of wonderment about it still. Once Harry discovers he's a wizard, he starts taking things for granted about his abilities. In this book, everything's still fresh and new.

It's hard to believe that we're nearing the end of this saga. (Which reminds me, maybe I need to go see OOTP movie tonight while hubby is out with the boys.)
I resisted reading Harry Potter for the longest time - I think it was after GoF was published that I picked the first book at a friend's house and was hooked. I went right to the book store and bought all four books and read them in one weekend.
So looking forward to the final *sob* release party. I plan to go here in my neck of the woods, dressed as McGonagall and enjoy myself. Last release party I didn't dress up, but there were some kids dressed as Dementors which I thought was genius.
And try as I might - I've been King's Cross station a number of times, but I can never find Platform 9-3/4.

I love the illustration of baby Harry at the beginning of the novel. So chubby and cute!
I'm also a big fan of Dudley with a pig tail!

That's a very cute mini sweater! I can't wait to read the final book, although I'll probably be upset that it's over. T.T

I'm not sure if I have a favourite passage either, but I do have a facourite character. It's Ginny. I LOVE her. She's so fierce for being the only girl in the family, and I love how everyone cowers at her bat-bogey. I was so happy when she and Harry got togther in book 6, and I cried when he broke up with her. I'm hoping they get back together at some point in this last book!

We're only at the middle of book 2 but of course we've seen most of the movies. I haven't let my son see the goblet of fire I thought it got too dark for him, but I can't wait to see the new movie and of course get the new book!

It's been a while since I read the first book. But I love the wonderment of it. I think that it was brilliant to place Harry with the Dursley's. That grounds him - there is hope that someday when he needs to most, he'll remember to be humble.
I have a confession: for complicated reasons, my favorite character is Snape. I believe he is going to die in the last book, and it's breaking my heart : (
You know I LOVE that little sweater!!! : )

I think one of my favourite parts in the first HP book is when Harry communicates with the snake at the zoo. I guess I like this bit because I always wanted to be able to "talk with the animals" - I think it would be fascinating to know what animals are thinking.

My favorite scene in this book is when Harry is with Hagrid in Diagon Ally for the first time. It makes me hope that there is a place out there like that!
I'm going with my friend and family to a midnight party at the local Borders to get the last book (*tear*) and I'm so excited! Though a little disappointed that it is ending.

My favorite thing about book one is Harry's developing relationship with Ron and Hermione. He had an instant connection with them and that friendship has played a key role in everything that happened to him since. Having come from having no friends to having two of the best friends one could ever hope for....I think that must mean more to Harry then even finding out about his Wizard family legacy. What would such a thing mean without those two?
I look foward to seeing what they accomplish together in the last book.
And I agree Lynda. He IS the boy who LIVED. Any departure from that would be a betrayal of the story.

OKay the little knitted sweater has to be the best give-away ever.
Book One is all about Hagrid and his accent for me (remember that my husband and I read these books aloud to one another.)
