I'm trying hard not to turn this pretty little blog into a weight loss journal. But I recently read a book that was so inspiring I had to share it with y'all: Neris and India's Idiot-Proof Diet: A Weight-Loss Plan for Real Women by Neris Thomas and India Knight.
A friend loaned me this book that is written by two straight talking English women. Their honesty and voices of reason were a refreshing approach to weight loss. At times I felt they were talking directly to me, almost like a friend in the room. And much of what they said made complete sense.
The beginning and the end of the book were thoroughly enjoyable. The middle is detailed information about the Atkins-like diet they followed. I skimmed most of that and don't recommend the diet itself. I've managed to lose twenty four pounds by reducing the amount of food I eat while still maintaining variety, so a low to no carbohydrate diet seems like an unnecessary punishment to the mind and body. However, the real value in this book lay in their inspirational stories of a seventy pound weight loss each and the experiences, both positive and negative, they experienced on their journey.
This book is not for the faint of heart. They mention issues that are rarely discussed in other so called diet books (i.e. difficulty with bowel movements while dieting). And their say it like it is attitude might not be for everyone. But I enjoyed it immensely and took some motivation from them so perhaps you will too.
Wow! I'm so impressed with your weight loss -- big congratulations!!!

my say-it-like-it-is attitude gets me into trouble too... so I love honesty and straight forward in others...but it does tend to annoy most people. Maybe I could learn a bit of tact or something...but nah... too much trouble...
When I say don't waste money, time and effort on weight loss..people don't like to hear it. My own simple way of keeping my weight at a healthy level is... eat nutritious foods... eat less and move more. They think it has to be tougher than that. If I put on a few extra pounds, it's what I do...and it works. It is simple math... calories in equals calories on ..hanging as fat...quite simply you have to move enough to burn off the numbers.

Good for you! It's hard losing weight, it can seem like forever before you see results, but slowly and steadily it will come. I too am trying to lose some weight, am breastfeeding too, so even slower?! But I will get there!

I've been working on my own personal weightloss and have lost 10lbs so far! I've been exercising regularly and eating a more balanced diet. I haven't cut out carbs, because, I think that would just be inhumane.
