It's not secret that I've been on a gardening kick lately. I wanted to share another of those library gems that I discovered by dragging home a dozen or so books at a time. A Garden of One's Own: Making and Keeping Your Flower Garden by Elsa Bakalar is full of gardening wisdom from a no nonsense gardener. I love her straightforward way of talking and her can do attitude. Elsa was a master gardener who influenced many folks over her lifetime. If you see this one on your library's shelves, grab it and enjoy it on the porch with a cup of tea.
I have many, many gardening books sitting on the shelf and hardly ever look at them anymore because I go to the internet for information. This post has me thinking I should get the books out and enjoy them again. Thanks for the idea.

Elsa Bakalar was a neighbor of mine for many years, and started me on my career as a flower gardener. Up til then I was only interested in vegetables. And fruit. Her advice is wise and knowledgeable delivered with wit and charm. I'm glad you found her book. She is no longer gardening, but can still put on a good turn.
